The Destroyer is unlocked at level 85. Besides good damage and acceptable range, it has a shackle effect.
It reduces your opponent's Strength, based on your Magic.
When it comes to being the one who hits hardest, anything goes.

A shackle reduces an entity's characteristics. Here it's a Strength shackle: each Destroyer shot removes 17 strength from your target for the next 2 turns. These penalties stack, and their amounts are amplified by Magic:
total_shackle = base_shackle * (1 + getMagic()/100)
(result rounded to the nearest integer).
Like all effects that can be applied to an entity, Shackles can be reduced by using Liberation. To remove them completely, you'll have to wait until Level 149 and the Manumission chip.
