About this weapon

The B-Laser is unlocked at level 95 and gets people talking a lot. "Uh, does this weapon hit or heal?" Both, captain!

If you have a lot of Strength and little Wisdom, the weapon lets you deal good damage.

Conversely, if you have a lot of Wisdom but little strength, you can heal your teammates (with a little slap on the way, to get them going again).

On top of that, the weapon is a "Laser", so it can hit/heal several leeks at once. And with a sizable maximum range, too!

Finally, if you have as much strength as wisdom, the weapon won't be of much use.

Note that the damage is applied before the healing: be careful not to finish off a teammate while trying to heal them. It also means you can kill an opponent, as long as you're sure the damage will kill them before the healing is applied.

Calculations

The result of using the weapon depends on your Strength and your Wisdom. More precisely, the damage is given by: base * (1 + strength/100) and the healing by: base * (1 + wisdom/100) so the total life lost by the target (without armor) will be: base * (strength - wisdom)/100 where losing a negative number of life points is, of course, a gain in life.

Comparison with another damage source: equivalent damage per TP

If you want to compare this weapon with others in terms of damage (assuming, then, that you have more strength than wisdom), the notion of damage per TP (which applied to raw damage, before amplification) is shaky here, since it doesn't rely on the same amplification formula. One way to compare is the following: at base, you get 10 to 12 healing as well as damage per TP. To get a number comparable to the damage per TP of another damage source, you can take this base and multiply it by the ratio of the weapons' respective multipliers, which gives: base * ((strength - wisdom)/100) / (1 + strength/100) = base * (strength - wisdom) / (100 + strength)

For example, if my leek has 500 strength and 200 wisdom, the ratio of the multipliers is (500 - 200) / (100 + 500) = 0.5, so the weapon's equivalent in damage per TP is 5 to 6.

If it has 300 strength and 0 wisdom, the ratio of the multipliers is 300/(100+300) = 0.75, so the equivalent in damage per TP is 7.5 to 9.

Finally, note that since armor reduces damage but not healing, B-Laser damage holds up worse against armor than other damage does.

Comparison with another healing source: equivalent healing per TP

Likewise, to compare B-Laser healing with a chip's healing (assuming you have more wisdom than strength...), apply the same formula with the roles of strength and wisdom swapped: the equivalent healing per TP is 10 to 12, both multiplied by (wisdom - strength)/(100 + wisdom).

Note that this time, armor works in favor of a leek that wants to heal its allies with the B-Laser: it helps absorb the damage from the first effect.
