[Update 3.01] Five new components, test fights in the editor, images in the chat and on the forum
Hi everyone!
Two and a half weeks after 3.0, here is 3.01! A good part of it is already online, shipped bit by bit since 3.0 and often straight from your feedback on the forum. The biggest piece was still missing: five new components and a new alteration scale, which finally makes all 36 alterations obtainable. Also on the menu: test fights right inside the editor, images in the chat and on the forum, a new message editor and a big batch of fixes.
The new scale affects components some of you spent a long time improving, so I'm taking the time to explain it right below.
Full changelog here: https://leekwars.com/release/3.01
Five components, and every alteration within reach
- Five new components, whose schemes drop in fights like the others: the Walnut (level 79), the Cocoa (level 185), the Amethyst ring (level 198), the Gyroscope (level 259) and the Levitator (level 287). Four of them give back, when recycled, alterations that no component gave until now.
- Walnut (fruit, level 79): 80 life, 30 wisdom, 1 RAM
- Cocoa (fruit, level 185): −100 life, 90 strength, 90 magic, −1 MP
- Amethyst ring (physical, level 198): 180 life, 40 science, 60 magic, 2 RAM
- Gyroscope (electronic, level 259): 140 life, 60 strength, 40 resistance, 60 science, 1 MP
- Levitator (electronic, level 287): 50 wisdom, 90 agility, −40 resistance, 80 magic, 40 frequency, 2 cores, −1 MP
- Why this work: twelve alterations had no component to give them back when recycled, and six of them simply could not be obtained. So nobody could complete the Completionist trophy (own an alteration of each of the 36 types). With the new components and a few reworked ones, all 36 alterations now have a source: Completionist becomes doable.
- In exchange, the scale changes: the rare characteristics weigh much more in a component's charge. A TP now weighs 180 (80 before), an MP 210 (100), a core 90 (40) and a point of RAM 120 (60). Strength, agility, wisdom, resistance, science and magic go from 24 to 36, while life and frequency don't move. In return, big components gain capacity, especially those that already carry TP, cores or RAM.
- Existing components are reworked so that it all holds together: most of them come out stronger, and the three motherboards get lighter. And I'd rather say it clearly: the Z.v-850 Computing Core and the RAM 3 lose their native TP. As long as they had it, a TP added to these components counted as a reinforcement, with no limit per leek. Without a native TP, it becomes a created characteristic, and each leek can only create a given characteristic on one of its components. All the stat changes:
- Z.v-850 Computing Core: TP 1 → 0
- RAM 3: TP 1 → 0
- Motherboard: life 50 → 40, science 40 → 20
- Advanced motherboard: life 100 → 60
- Pro motherboard: life 150 → 80, wisdom 40 → 20, science 40 → 20
- Amazonite plate: +20 wisdom
- Obsidian plate: +1 TP
- Copper spring: +30 resistance
- Power supply: +40 agility
- Uzoma: +2 cores
- Kirabo: life 60 → 100, strength 10 → 20
- Thruster II: +1 core
- Liquid cooler: +40 agility, frequency 60 → 100
- Kiwi: wisdom 20 → 50
- Orange: +20 frequency
- Switch: +40 magic
- Switch Pro: wisdom 70 → 80, science 70 → 80
- What about components that are already altered? Their charge is recounted with the new scale, often upwards. A component that would go above 90% charge goes back to the percentage it had before the update: it loses part of its added characteristics, and you get back the alterations and the Habs of the part removed. Components with added TP or MP are the most affected, since those weigh the most. And if, with the reworked components, two components of the same leek end up creating the same characteristic, the leek keeps the one that already created it: the other goes back to your inventory untouched, replaced on the leek by a plain copy of the same component. If one of your components looks wrongly handled, tell me on the forum.
- And in the workshop: the history follows each piece and shows the success chance, a piece's metabolism stays displayed on its thumbnail once found, a resource's tooltip tells how many you own, and a series of fixes (recycling a piece finally pays its Habs into your account, loading a loadout keeps your improved pieces, a recipe that would push a piece past 100% charge is refused…).
Editor and LeekScript
- Test fights now play inside the editor, in a third column next to the code, which you can resize. "Run the test again" saves your AI and replays the same scenario, and "Open the fight" shows its page if you want to watch it full size. On mobile, nothing changes.
- A change to be aware of:
beforeFight() no longer has an operation budget of its own, it draws from turn 1's operations. If your beforeFight() does heavy computing, your first turn gets that much less.
- On the language side:
toFixed(x, n) writes a number with exactly n decimals (toFixed(1.0, 2) gives "1.00"), getAwakeningZone(entity) gives the radius of a plant's Awakening zone, and a minus stuck to a number is part of it: -5, -∞ and -π no longer cost an operation. setLoadout() no longer charges a potion to replay the same loadout, and an improved piece only serves one leek per fight: the one wearing it, or the first one served.
- For newcomers: the tutorial goes all the way to the end again, the first fight leads to the editor, and the starter AI is commented in your language, in LeekScript, JavaScript, TypeScript or Python.
- And also: the editor folds long single-line arrays in one click (
[⋯ 84]), the Console marks invisible characters with a red dot (zero-width space…), a "mark() in foreground" option shows marks through the leeks, long say() messages wrap onto several lines, test fight turrets play the chosen AI again, and a series of compiler and editor fixes (x++ on an integer | real, object.method staying bound to its object, object['field'](), the recycle bin, the right-click "Paste"…).
Images in the chat and on the forum
- You can now send images in the chat, from 5,000 trophy points: paste them, drag them or attach them, GIFs included.
- Images also come to the forum (up to 5 per message) and to the encyclopedia, with a new shared editor to write a topic, a reply or a page: toolbar, live preview, shortcuts (Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+K, and Ctrl+Enter to send) and emojis.
- You can edit your chat messages for 15 minutes after sending them (thanks to Amal). An edited message carries a small pencil, with the edit date on hover.
/exec runs code right in the chat, in LeekScript, JavaScript, TypeScript or Python, and shows the result under the message, with its cost in operations and any errors. Handy to answer a question with an example that actually runs :)
- And also: Emoji 18 with 17 more emojis and 70 favorites instead of 30, farmer and leek names accept every writing system (Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Chinese…), mentions recognize accented names, messages from the same farmer stay grouped when you scroll back through the chat, the encyclopedia search finds a page from the beginning of a word, and forum categories are shown in the language of the forum you're browsing.
Fights, arenas and tournaments
- A few balance changes: Superinfection no longer removes poisons, it immediately deals 50% of the damage they do per turn (65% on a critical hit), and each of them loses a turn instead of disappearing. Maturation gives +20 power instead of +5, and the J-Laser can be used 4 times per turn instead of 3.
- Poisons, aftereffects and heals over time are now counted down on their target's turn, one turn per hit: a 2-turn poison really hits twice, even when it was applied outside its caster's turn. That's what happened to the Chilli Peppers' Capsaicin, which only hit once.
- Unhealable also blocks the healing from max life effects (Armoring, Elevation…), Liberation no longer turns a state into another and removes Unhealable and Sterile on a critical hit, and an awakened plant acts under its own name, with its own operation budget.
- In the arena, a new "Random" option for the preferred mode, which counts the same for every mode, and "No preference" no longer weighs in the draw: you go along with the others' preferences.
- Four fun rankings, one per arena: wars won, chest hunts won, Colossi defeated and wins as the Colossus (thanks to dulph).
- Opponents closer to your strength: tournaments group leeks of similar levels, automatic arenas never put two leeks of the same farmer together, and in the garden, low levels face opponents their size.
- The garden, the arenas and the bosses open up to the API: with an API key, you can register for the arena and start your solo, farmer, team and boss fights without keeping the site open.
The home page and "Live"
- "Live" now follows the whole game: leeks and teams created, anniversaries, entries into the top of the fun rankings, clovers caught, automatic arenas, and tournaments from start to finish, from the opening to the winners. The feed arrives in real time and can be filtered by category, and you can add the widget several times to your home page, each with its own filter.
- Four new widgets: Arena (players waiting and a button to join them), Team (talent, rank and connected members), My tournaments (thanks to Smartiz) and Encyclopedia, with the latest edited pages in every language (thanks to Sycareus).
- The 3.0 widgets get better too: "Tournament winners" shows every winner of the last edition, "Rarest trophies" those of the whole game, with your progress, and "Leek statistics" the leek's rank and its gap to the average talent (thanks to Amal).
- And also: editing the home page can be undone, widgets can be much smaller, hovering a farmer or a leek opens its preview, the Chat widget can also show your team's or your private group's chat, and "Notable players" keeps only one account per player.
And also
- Six new resources to collect: a Scarab for every bug you reported on the forum that got resolved, a Golden Scarab for an exploit reported rather than exploited, a Turret Blade when you destroy a turret (and sometimes a Turret Core), a Four-Leaf Clover Petal when you catch the clover, and the Moonstone, given by the organizers of Battle Royale evenings. Past resolved bug reports and clovers already caught count too. No recipe uses them yet: stay tuned ;)
- The forge crafts and destroys in batches, ×1 or ×10, and after a destruction, "Repeat" puts the same piece back in one click.
- The inventory has a search: by name, without worrying about accents, and a scheme can also be found by what it crafts.
- Your loadouts can be imported and exported as JSON, to share them on the forum or move them from one account to another (thanks to Tabarius and Nyaleph).
- The fight player is much smoother, especially on modest machines, the site starts faster (the code editor is no longer loaded on every page), and titles switch to a more readable pixel font.
- The big leeks are back in the margins, with a setting: green, discreet or hidden. And the "Old design" option is back in the settings.
- The changelog has a search, down to version titles, to find when a feature or a fix arrived.
- Up to 42 declared accounts, for everyone and without Leek Wars +. With Leek Wars +, your fights are generated two at a time and the reserve goes up to 200 fights, and the subscription is now offered to moderators, monthly crystals included.
- And also: leek, farmer and team pages show up to 12 fights and tournaments, switching accounts keeps you on the page you were on, a notification is marked as read as soon as you open its page, the tournament bracket is bigger, chip glyphs are thin neons again, the Collection can hide paid and unobtainable items, the Chinese translation has been fully reviewed and no language is marked "beta" anymore, and a long list of fixes (Safari and iPhone, account switching, private message emails, trophies, fight reports and player, mobile).
A big thank you to everyone who reported bugs and suggested ideas since 3.0, a good part of this update comes from you: Amal, Smartiz, dulph, fujiwar, Sycareus, Nyaleph, FdHP, WhiteSlash, Ref, feeddageek, Casanova, Tabarius, pakalatak, tagadanar, MaxDuKart, LeeksLord, dulph5, CultiVolteur, nytope and Proutmouth.
Enjoy, and good luck to those going for Completionist ;)
